font-size: 12pt; language: EN; mso-ansi-language: EN;'>We have been told that if we ingest table salt that has been &ldquo;fortified&rdquo; with iodine, we will be able to get enough of our body&rsquo;s iodine needs.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp; </span>The author says, not only is table salt considered a processed food with the nutrients stripped out, but iodine that is put in the table salt evaporates quickly, leaving the salt with barely any usable iodine, and it&rsquo;s in a form that is not very bio-available, as well.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp;&nbsp; </span>In addition, the amount of iodine that is put into table salt is only enough to prevent goiters (swollen thyroids).<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp; </span>The recommended levels<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp; </span>do not take into account the rest of the body&rsquo;s requirements, especially the thyroid, prostate, breast and uterine tissue&rsquo;s needs.</span><br /><span></span><br /><span></span>  <span style='font-family: "Goudy Old Style"; It can be a little pricier but remember that if you're really paying attention when you're eating and fully chewing each bite, you'll stop when you're full and you'll begin to know how much "fuel" your body really needs to function optimally.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp; font-weight: normal; language: EN; mso-ansi-language: EN;'><span></span>20% of the inactive hormone T4 is converted to the active hormone T3 in the gut.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp; </span>Digestion and gut integrity is essential to good thyroid function.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp; font-size: 14pt; font-weight: normal; language: EN; mso-ansi-language: EN;'>Several tests directly related to thyroid function are TSH, Free T3, Free T4, Reverse T3 and the anti-thyroid antibodies TPO and Thyroid globulin antibodies.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp; </span></span>  <br /><span></span><br /><span></span><span style='font-family: "Goudy Old Style"; font-size: 14pt; font-weight: normal; language: EN; mso-ansi-language: EN;'>Nutrient deficiency testing is also necessary to determine thyroid function.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp; </span>The minerals iodine, iron, zinc and selenium, along with vitamin D and the B vitamins will give you a better picture.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp; </span>Heavy metal toxicity may be an issue as well.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">&nbsp;
