Let's talk about the actual reasons we're in college. First, to get an education. Yes, to actually learn new things. And second, to learn to live on our own away from our parents and
experience new things.
So going back to number 1. Learning things. When we are properly nourished, and hydrated, our blood sugar works right and we can concentrate, right? We avoid anxiety and depression and we can keep on task. Try it, I can't tell you how great it was for me to go back to school at age 50 and be able to read and comprehend and not be fearful of testing, etc. I wish I knew about this stuff when I was in
Number 2 pertains to experiencing new things-eating differently than our peers is actually a good thing. I'm attaching a Cafeteria Meal Plan to help you nourish yourselves, even though the food is not going to be the best quality.
If you're in your own housing, try to buy organic, grass fed, pastured, free range, non-GMO, wild caught, etc. It can be a little pricier but remember that if you're really paying attention when you're eating and fully chewing each bite, you'll stop when you're full and you'll begin to know how much "fuel" your body really needs to function optimally. You might even tart using a smaller plate and eating less.
Make sure you have plenty of the www.healthylivingtc.com snacks on hand in either case-dorm or off-campus.
HOW TO EAT WHEN TRAVELLING
I recently drove my daughter out to CA to start her new life AFTER college. We took a smaller cooler bag and refilled ice along the way. In the bag I brought:
Hard boiled eggs
Yogurt (whole organic )
Cinnamon spice granola *
Grass fed meat sticks
Dark Cocoa macaroons *
Flax energy bars *
Lots of good clean filtered water-try not to drink anything from plastic but if you have to get bottles along the way, it's better than no water
A jar with cinnamon, ground flax seed and ginger all mixed together
Jello - homemade with organic fruit and gelatin from grass fed animals*
Canned tuna (BPA free can/wild caught)
Jar of olive oil and balsamic for salads
Kombucha - you can also find this on the road
Cultured veggies - you can always find a jar of sauerkraut or Bubbie's salt preserved pickles
Smoked wild salmon
Cut up veggies
Butter , nut butter and sea salt
Grass fed beef jerky
Already prepared bacon
Homemade kefir already blended with fruit
